Opportunity Information: Apply for O BJA 2025 172462

The BJA FY25 National Sexual Assault Kit Initiative (SAKI) is a federal grant aimed at reducing sexual and violent crime by addressing backlogs of unsubmitted or partially tested sexual assault kits (SAKs). The program provides funding to help criminal justice agencies improve their response to sexual assault cases, support victims, and ensure offenders are held accountable.

Eligible applicants include state and local law enforcement agencies, prosecutorial offices, and non-law enforcement government agencies acting as fiscal agents. Smaller law enforcement agencies (with fewer than 250 sworn officers) or their consortia can specifically apply under Category 2.

For Categories 3, 4, and 6, eligibility extends to jurisdictions that have already processed most of their backlogged SAKs and have addressed at least 75% of related follow-up activities, such as investigations and prosecutions. Category 5 is open to current or former SAKI grantees that meet similar progress benchmarks.

The goal is to support holistic, system-wide approaches to sexual assault cases by providing funding for both testing and necessary investigative and prosecutorial follow-up.
